We are pleased to announce that Community of Hope’s application on behalf of Camp Hope for funds through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) was accepted! The money will go towards this coming year’s Camp Hope programming, which begins its first session in December.
The CDBG’s primary objective is to provide help the community through housing, education, and revitalization programming. The initiatives should benefit low to moderately incomed families and individuals, with the purpose of providing services and opportunities that would not otherwise available to them. In supporting the most vulnerable members of our community, they support the community as a whole.
Camp Hope fulfills this mission by providing a safe and enriching camp experience during the winter, spring, and summer school breaks for families experiencing financial and/or housing hardship. For many Brevard County families, this is a time that represents great uncertainty: without school being in session the parents must find somewhere for their children to be during their work hours or risk losing their employment due to lack of child care. Food scarcity can also be a challenge without school breakfasts and lunches.
Camp Hope is our solution to that challenge: an environment that meets the physical, mental, and social needs of our campers. It’s a place of exploration and fun that encourages every child to find the beauty in the world. We want them to imagine their future and and then encourage them to seek the skills they’ll need to achieve it.
We are half a year out from the first session but still have supplies to collect and curriculum to write, so keep an eye here for all of the exciting things that are happening here at Community of Hope.
If you'd like to support our program though financial or in-kind donations, feel free to contact us at info@hopeofbrevard.com!
